The first night of September was beautiful on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.  70°F, no humidity… a perfect fall evening during the last days of summer. Traffic zooms down Broadway past the 72nd Street subway station. Midnight along Columbus Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and all is quiet.
